Preparation and Cleanliness
The subject should try to have a bowel movement following by a bath or diligent wash an hour or so before commencing Anal sex. Anal Lubrication
As mentioned the anus is not self lubricating so you will need some form of lubrication. An oil-based lubricants are a great insulator for anal contact. Vaseline is the best, in the case of anal sex, because it will stay in place and lubricate much more determinedly than thinner lubricants, and yet not provide its own resistance like thicker ones will. Oil based lubricants will also tend to cover up any potential smell and bodily waste residue. If you use Vaseline/petrolatum, for example, the odds are that a simple wiping off with a dry cloth will result in finger/penis/whatever seeming to be just about perfectly clean. Again, this may not matter to some people, but it's worth mention because it is crucial to others. I realize this runs contrary to the advise that oil-based lubricants are a threat to a latex condom, which will be damaged by it. The trouble with Water based lubricants is that they dry out too fast with anal sex. If you are using condoms then select one that is compatible with oil based lubricants and continue to monitor the condition of the condom.
